Classic Ford Parts — Full FAQ

Common questions about buying, sourcing, and restoring with classic Ford car and truck parts from Wales Car Parts in Cwmbran.

Buying Classic Ford Parts

8 questions
What counts as a classic Ford car part?

Any Ford component made for a model no longer in production — Escort, Cortina, Capri, Sierra, Anglia, Popular, and early Transit among them. We supply new old stock, reproduction, and used classic Ford car parts depending on availability for your model and year. If you are restoring or maintaining a retro Ford, send us the model, year, and part description and we will confirm what we can source.

Is there a difference between classic Ford spares and reproduction parts?

Classic Ford spares generally refers to original components removed from donor vehicles — used, but period-correct. Reproduction parts are newly manufactured to the original pattern and specification. We supply both. For body panels, rubber seals, and trim, reproduction is often the better choice for condition. For mechanicals and unique items, original classic Ford spares are sometimes the only option. We will tell you which applies when you enquire.

Are you the same as Ford Spare Parts Ltd or Ford Spare Parts Limited?

No — we are Wales Car Parts, an independent classic and modern Ford parts specialist based in Cwmbran, South Wales. We are not affiliated with any business trading as Ford Spare Parts Ltd or Ford Spare Parts Limited. We supply genuine OEM, used, and reproduction Ford parts direct from our yard to customers across the UK. If you found us searching for a Ford spares specialist, you are in the right place.

How do I find the correct classic Ford part number?

For most classic models, the best approach is to contact us with your model, year, body style, and engine code. We use original Ford parts catalogues — some dating back to the 1950s — to cross-reference and identify the correct component. If you already have a part number, we can often match it directly.

Do classic Ford parts come with a warranty?

Used mechanical and body parts come with a warranty. Reproduction parts are covered by the manufacturer’s specification guarantee. Original handbooks and literature are sold as described — condition is confirmed when you enquire. Contact us for specific warranty terms on the part type you need.

How do I check availability before ordering?

Send your model, year, body style, engine code, and part description to [email protected]. We check current stock and reproduction supplier availability and come back with a quote — most enquiries receive a response same working day. We do not take payment before confirming availability.

What information do I need to have ready when enquiring?

Model name and year; body style (2-door, 4-door, estate); engine capacity and code if known; which side for body and trim parts; and whether original, reproduction, or used is acceptable. The more detail you provide, the faster and more accurately we can quote.

What is the lead time for classic Ford car parts?

Parts we hold in stock despatch within one to two working days. Reproduction parts sourced to order typically take three to seven working days depending on the supplier. We confirm the specific lead time before you commit to a purchase.

Classic Ford Car Models Covered

6 questions
Do you supply classic Ford parts for the Escort Mk1 and Mk2?

Yes. The Escort Mk1 (1968–1975) and Mk2 (1975–1980) are among our most requested classic models. We supply body panels, rubber seals, engine and gearbox components, interior trim, and suspension parts. Reproduction availability is strong for Escort — most common parts are in stock or available within a few days.

Do you supply classic Ford Cortina parts?

Yes — Cortina Mk3, Mk4, and Mk5 (1970–1982). We hold or can source body panels, glass, engines (1.3, 1.6, and 2.0 OHC), trim panels, headlining, and brake and suspension components. Mk3 and Mk4 body panels can be harder to source in reproduction — contact us and we will advise what is available.

Do you supply classic Ford Capri parts?

Yes. Capri (1968–1986) across all three series. Unique body panels including the bonnet and rear quarters, V6 and 2.0 engine components, interior buckets and door cards, and suspension parts. Some Capri-specific panels are only available from specialist suppliers — lead times can be longer than Escort or Cortina.

Do you supply classic Ford auto parts for the Mustang?

Yes. We supply classic Ford auto parts for the Mustang from 1964 to 1973. Body panels, chrome trim, V8 and straight-six engine components, pony interior upholstery kits, and suspension and steering parts. Classic Ford auto parts for the Mustang are largely supported by a strong US-market reproduction supply chain.

Do you stock parts for the Ford Anglia and Popular?

Yes, though availability is more limited than later models. We hold some used parts and original handbooks for the Anglia 105E, 100E, Popular, and Prefect. Stock changes as items come in and sell — contact us with your model and year and we will check what we currently have.

What classic Ford car parts are easiest to source?

Classic Ford car parts for the Capri, Escort Mk1 and Mk2, Cortina Mk3–5, and Sierra are the fastest to source — those models have the strongest reproduction supply chains. Body panels, rubber seals, and mechanical parts for those four models can usually be confirmed within one working day. Obscure body variants, trim pieces, and very early models (pre-1960s) take more lead time.

Retro Ford & Vintage Ford Parts

4 questions
What is the difference between retro Ford and classic Ford?

The terms are used interchangeably in common usage. ‘Retro Ford’ tends to refer to models from the 1970s and 1980s that have a nostalgic following — Escort, Capri, Sierra — often in modified or show condition. ‘Classic Ford’ is broader and includes those models as well as earlier vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s. We supply retro Ford spares for both groups — the distinction does not affect what we can source.

Can I buy vintage Ford parts for pre-1960s models?

Yes. We hold vintage Ford parts for pre-decimal models including the Anglia 105E and 100E, Popular 100E and 103E, Prefect, and Thames van. We also stock original handbooks and dealer literature for these vehicles dating back to 1953. Vintage Ford parts are the most variable in availability — stock changes as we source and sell individual items. Contact us with your model and year.

Do you stock retro Ford accessories as well as mechanical parts?

Yes. Alongside mechanical and body parts for retro Ford models, we stock interior trim, badges, rubber seals, original handbooks, parts catalogues, and period-correct seat upholstery kits for classic Ford trucks. If you are looking for something specific to finish a restoration or show build, send us the details.

Do you supply classic Ford spares for the Sierra Cosworth and XR4i?

Yes. We supply classic Ford spares specifically for Cosworth and XR4i variants including model-specific body parts, trim, and mechanical components. Cosworth-specific parts are scarcer than standard Sierra components and prices reflect that. Contact us with the variant, year, and part and we will confirm availability.

Used Ford Spares

4 questions
Do you supply used Ford spares as well as new reproduction parts?

Yes. We supply both used Ford spares and new reproduction parts. For classic models, used parts often means original components — which is exactly what restorers want for authenticity and correct fitment. For modern Fords, used spares come from dismantled donor vehicles that have been checked before listing. The right choice depends on your model, the part type, and your budget — we will advise when you enquire.

How do you check used Ford spares before selling them?

Used mechanical parts are inspected visually and checked for obvious faults before being listed. Engines are checked for oil condition, head gasket condition, visible damage, and compression where practical. Gearboxes are checked for casing damage, oil leaks, and operation. Body panels are assessed for rust, damage, and repairability. We do not sell a part as available if we have doubts about its condition.

Are used Ford spare parts cheaper than reproduction?

Usually yes, particularly for mechanical parts. Used spares tend to be priced below reproduction where condition is comparable. For body parts, the difference is smaller — a good used panel may be similar in price to a reproduction once the labour to straighten or prep it is considered. We will quote both options where both exist.

Do you sell used Ford spare parts for scrapped vehicles?

Yes. We dismantle Ford vehicles and sell the usable components as used Ford spare parts. This covers everything from engines and gearboxes to doors, electrical components, and interior trim. Parts come from vehicles that are no longer economically viable to repair but whose individual components are in good working order.

Classic Ford Trucks

5 questions
Do you sell classic Ford auto parts for American models like the Mustang and F-Series?

Yes. We supply classic Ford auto parts for US-market models including the Mustang (1964–1973), F-100, F-150, and F-250 trucks across multiple generations, and other American Ford vehicles. Engine components, body parts, cab interior pieces, and seat upholstery kits are available for the most popular F-Series generations. Send your truck model, year, and part description and we will confirm availability.

What years of Ford F-Series truck do you cover?

We cover F-Series trucks across four main generations: the 1948–1956 F-1 and F-100, the 1957–1966 F-100 and F-250, the 1967–1979 F-Series, and selected parts for later generations. Parts availability varies significantly between years — always include the specific year when enquiring, as body panels, cab dimensions, and mechanical specs differ substantially across generations.

Do you supply classic Transit parts?

Yes. We supply parts for the classic Transit Mk1 (1965–1978) and Mk2 (1978–1986). The Mk1 and Mk2 are substantially different vehicles — always specify the year and variant when enquiring. We hold mechanical and body parts, and original handbooks for both generations.

How does a classic Ford truck differ from a classic Ford car in terms of parts sourcing?

Classic Ford truck parts — particularly for US-market F-Series vehicles — draw on a different supply chain from UK classic cars. American truck parts are generally well-supported by US reproduction suppliers, and many popular F-Series components can be sourced more readily than equivalent UK-market classic parts. Lead times may be longer for imported components. Classic Transit parts draw on a UK and European supply chain.

Do you stock parts for the Ford Thames 400E?

We hold some parts for the Thames 400E (1957–1965), though availability is limited. This is one of our rarer models — stock varies and some parts may need to be sourced from specialist suppliers. Contact us with your specific requirements and we will check what is available.

Classic Ford Truck Seat Upholstery

4 questions
Do you sell classic Ford truck seat upholstery kits?

Yes. We stock period-correct seat upholstery kits for classic Ford trucks including the Ford F-Series and classic Transit. Kits are available in the original materials and colours for each generation — not generic cover sets. Upholstery kits are cut to order, so contact us with your truck model, year, bench or bucket seats, and colour preference for available options and lead time.

What F-Series seat upholstery patterns do you stock?

We stock seat cover kits for three main F-Series generations. For 1948–1956: ribbed vinyl bench covers in tan, brown, and black. For 1957–1966: pleated vinyl in period colours including turquoise and white, red, and black, with original tuck-and-roll patterns. For 1967–1979: high-back bucket and bench options in velour and vinyl using original Ford colour codes. Door card inserts are also available for the 1967–1979 generation.

How long does a classic Ford truck seat upholstery kit take to produce?

Upholstery kits are cut to order. Lead time depends on the generation, pattern, and material. Most kits are completed within five to ten working days from confirmation of order. We confirm the specific lead time when you enquire before you commit.

Do you supply seat upholstery for classic Ford cars as well as trucks?

Yes, though car interior upholstery is handled on a case-by-case basis. We hold reproduction seat cover kits for selected classic Ford cars including the Cortina and Capri. For other models, availability depends on what specialist interior suppliers can provide. Contact us with your model, year, and interior colour and we will advise on options.

Original Ford Handbooks & Manuals

4 questions
Do you stock original Ford handbooks and workshop manuals?

Yes. We hold original Ford owner’s handbooks, workshop manuals, parts catalogues, and dealer literature from the early 1950s through to the 1980s. These are original printed documents — period paper, original covers, genuine Ford printing. Not reprints. Stock varies by model and year and some items are one of a kind. Contact us with your model and year and we will check current availability before you commit.

How are original Ford handbooks shipped?

Handbooks and printed literature are wrapped in protective packaging and shipped by Royal Mail Tracked for most items. Larger bound workshop manuals or multi-volume sets go by DHL on a tracked service. We confirm the shipping method and cost when quoting.

Are the handbooks original or reprints?

All Ford handbooks and workshop manuals we sell are original printed documents. We do not sell reprints or photocopied versions. Condition is noted when you enquire — some items are in excellent unread condition, others show age-appropriate wear consistent with genuine use.

What Ford models do you have original handbooks for?

Stock changes frequently but we regularly hold handbooks and workshop manuals for Escort Mk1 and Mk2, Cortina Mk3–5, Capri, Sierra, Anglia, Popular, Prefect, early Transit, and selected Ford truck models. We also hold some original dealer sales brochures and parts catalogues. The earliest items date from 1953. Send your model and year and we will confirm what we have.
